Date: Oct 19, 2023

MINI Countryman Tire and Wheel

A MINI from Lauderdale MINI makes every drive around Miami and Hollywood a joy. You’ll want to keep your zippy vehicle in great shape to get the most out of owning your new vehicle by regularly checking on the tires.

Discover more details about MINI tire maintenance with our complete guide.

Every Week: Look Over Your MINI Tires

MINI tire maintenance begins with a visual inspection of all four tires once a week. That means looking at them when you get gas in Coconut Creek. Just make sure the tires don’t look deflated or overly worn.

One thing to note is that electric vehicles are heavier than their internal combustion counterparts. If you own an EV, look at the tires after the work week is over as your electric MINI recharges in your Fort Lauderdale garage.

MINI Tire PSI Guide for Every Month

Monthly MINI tire maintenance and inspections are important because you’ll examine your tires more closely. During this monthly inspection, check the tire air pressure with a tire pressure gauge. A tire pressure gauge only costs a couple of dollars, and they’re widely available at auto stores. Plus, one of them fits easily into your glove box because they’re the size of a pen or pencil.

Checking your MINI tire pressure only takes a few minutes of your time. First, look for your vehicle’s recommended PSI on the panel of the driver’s side door. If you can’t find it there, look at the owner’s manual or driving information screen.

Follow these steps to check your MINI’s tire pressure:

  1. Make sure the tires are cold before you test the pressure. If you just drove your MINI, let the tires cool down for four hours before checking the tire pressure to get an accurate reading.
  2. Unscrew the tire valve cover.
  3. Keep the tire valve cover in a safe place so you don’t lose it.
  4. Insert the end of the tire pressure gauge into the valve. The tire will let off a tiny bit of air.
  5. Look at the reading to see the tire pressure.
  6. If the reading is low, add more air to your MINI tire, gradually in short bursts, until the tire pressure is correct.

If this problem persists, consider bringing your MINI in for service to our shop.

In general, the overall MINI tire pressure varies by model, which we will show you next.

MINI Tire PSI Guide: Recommended Inflation

These MINI tire pressure numbers for popular models are listed in pounds per square inch (PSI).

  • MINI Cooper: 33 PSI
  • MINI Cooper S with 17-inch wheels: 38 PSI
  • MINI John Cooper Works with 17-inch wheels: 38 PSI
  • MINI John Cooper Works with 18-inch wheels: 41 PSI
  • MINI Cooper Clubman: 32 or 35 PSI
  • MINI Cooper S Clubman: 35 or 38 PSI
  • MINI John Cooper Works Clubman with 17-inch wheels: 38 PSI
  • MINI John Cooper Works Clubman with 18-inch wheels: 41 PSI

Looking at your tire treads for wear is another important aspect of regular MINI tire maintenance.

How to Check MINI Tire Tread With a Penny

A ruler is the most accurate way to measure tire tread depth. However, a penny will suffice when you’re out and about in Fort Lauderdale or anywhere on your next adventure.

Follow these steps to check the tread depth on your tires with a penny:

  1. Insert the penny with Lincoln head-first into a tire tread groove that shows the most wear.
  2. Check if Lincoln’s head is covered and no longer visible between the grooves.
  3. Turn the penny so that Lincoln’s head points down into the tread. See if the top of his head disappears between the ribs.
  4. If Lincoln’s entire head is visible, the tire is worn to approximately 2/32″ and is considered legally worn out in most States. Replace your MINI tire as soon as possible.

How to Check MINI Tire Tread Wear Using Other Means

These methods are more accurate but equally as effective as a penny. We can help you measure your tire tread depth at our service center.

  • Tread Depth Gauge: Purchase a tread depth gauge from any Fort Lauderdale-area auto part store. Insert the probe into the shallowest tread groove, then press the top bar of the gauge flat against the tire to see the tread wear rating.
  • Tread Wear Bars: Most tires have tread wear indicator bars built into them. If the colored bars are flush with the surrounding tire ribs, the tread depth has reached 2/32 of an inch or less.
